I religously use Toggl in my Information Technology career. In our organization, I am often asked "How much time am I spending on a project?", yet we are not provided with an internal tool to track it, so I use Toggl. Toggl comes in handy when you are asked to take on a new project and you can show where your time is going and what has to be re-assigned.
Toggl also allows me to stay focused. Once I start a task in Toggl I find that I stay on that task longer since I don't want to stop Toggl, start another task and then come back and re-start the original task. I find that I stick with a task for a longer period of time and wrap up more of the task quickly.
While all parts of Toggl are excellent (Timer mode, manual mode), I could use the following report:
1. I enter in the "Expected" hours for the week that I should bill for. In my case it is merely 40 hours
2. Toggl could take my time entries for each project and then show that I am over-allocated or under-allocated.
In order to generate this report today, I have to download the report to a spreadsheet, then format the hours and minutes, then do the calcualtion of the hours per project by 40 hours. This is not a deal breaker, but would be a nice to have.
If you are struggling with the question, "Where does my time go?" start using Toggl immediately. You will find that the rest room breaks and personal calls all add up!
