Friday, December 9, 2022: If you have been to Las Vegas and would like to expand your only entertainment options, you need to look “off the strip”. One of the great adventures you can consume is a Gold Mine and outside Hoover Dam Tour with the team at iTravel USA in Las Vegas. On December 9, 2022 I participated in the Gold Mine and Hoover Dam tour with iTravel. See link here.

GMC Yukon and the Gold Mine Tour Stop

The tour started with a pickup at the hotel in well maintained GMC Yukon. The GMC Yukon is usually reserved for private Tours, but we were the beneficiary of a schedule change. The iTravel Team sent this car for us. Jay, our Tour guide has a lot of knowledge about Las Vegas. Although we were there for a Gold Mine and Hoover Dam tour, I took advantage to discuss the Lake Mead water situation and the community development called Summerlin financed by Howard Hughes Investment corp.

El Dorado Canyon

Your travel in the vehicle is approximately 40 minutes were you land at the site of the El Dorado Canyon, reportedly one of the largest mining sites back in the day for the state of Nevada. This property is a private residence. Do not show up without a plan and definitely follow directions!

Once you arrive, there is a waiver to sign and then it is off the the tour. A former National Park Service Ranger that has a great command on the history of the mine, plenty of anecdotes and lots of comedy in the routine, delivered our tour. During the tour, you walk through the actual mine. In your journey, you need to use your imagination to think of the working conditions in the mine and the difficult conditions. The tour also covers how the new owners restored the mine to offer this great experience!

While you are at the property, you will see a piece of Hollywood. This site has been used for filming the movie titled: 3000 Miles to Graceland. Furthermore, the property has an eclectic collection of vehicles that the owners have in various state of restoration.

Nevada and Arizona State Line

Once you have completed the Gold Mine tour, it is on to the Hoover Dam. This is another comfortable ride in the GMC Yukon for about 30 minutes. Upon arrival, you will be on the bridge that looks down at the Hoover Dam and you can take the iconic picture where you are in 2 states at the same time. If you are looking for an inside tour of the Hoover Dam, make sure you book that separately and confirm that activity with your iTravel planner.

I highly recommend the tour of the Gold Mine and Hoover Dam. It was a great experience off the strip and provides a lot of great content! Jay our Tour guide was great. Please note, the iTravel team has a number of Tour Options. Based on the professional nature of this tour, I would be inclined to book other tours with this operation. If you have mobility challenges, talk to the team at iTravel to understand your options. The Gold Mine tour is on varied terrain and you. will want to know yout options prior the embarking on the adventure.
