Lucy Sparrow in Montauk, NY August 2023

This story will tell you

  • How to see the Lucy Sparrow show in Montauk, NH (AKA “The Hamptons”)
  • How to see The Hamptons in One Day

Lucy Sparrow and her “Feltz Bagel” Food Festival” (IG:@SewYourSoul, https://www.sewyoursoul.co.uk/) arrived in Montauk, NY this summer. The gallery is located at 717 Montauk State Point Highway, Montauk, NY. If you have not had the opportunity to immerse yourself in this art work, here is a great chance to see the art and enjoy a great trip to The Hamptons!

Prior to departing your home, consider packing the following items to cut down on costs:

  • Cooler
  • Drinks
  • Chips/Snacks
  • Storage bags or equivalent for ice

This travel plan assumes a start in New York City from the Marriott Fairfield Hotel located at 161 Front St, New York, NY. The Marriott hotel is located in the financial district and is a short walk to the FDR waterfront where you can take the water ferry or just spend time walking around Pier 17. The Marriott Hotel is a great property. The hotel offers a free breakfast. During the days of August 18–20, 2023 this included scrambled eggs, waffles, cheese omelettes and an assortment of yogurts, cereal and toast. Booking a hotel with a free breakfast is a great cost savings when traveling in New York City.

Marriott Fairfield New York, NY

The floors in the hotel contain approximately six rooms per floor. The rooms with a king size bed are comfortable for two people, but I would not plan on having two people that need to do any work in the room. The room is limited for the office chair position and would be challenged near the bed. The rooms have some sound deafening but you will hear doors slam and a guest with a deep voice will transmit the audio into your room that may keep you awake or interrupt your thoughts.

The hotel has a partnership with the iPark team at 201 Pearl St, New York NY. This is a parking garage and they will park the car for you. Pro Tip: Don’t forget to tip this team! They do a great job to keep your car safe and organized. The iPark team also let’s you into the garage when it is full if you are a guest at the hotel.

Trust Bae Is An Amazing Meal!

If you arrive on a Thursday or Friday night, you want to make a previous reservation for a great sushi/filipino combination at Trust Bae. This is a great dining experience created by the wonderful Chef Frances and her team. You will savor in seafood and beef delights. Trust Bae also can make great mocktails for your consumption to pair with this amazing meal.

After a good night sleep at the Marriott Hotel, grab your storage bags and head to the second floor. Hit up the ice machine for your drinks that are in your cooler in the car. Position your helper in the lobby with the bags of ice and head on over and retrieve the car. If this is a weekend, it will be easy to find a spot outside the hotel to park for a moment, load up the cooler with the ice and be on your way.

Departing New York City, you want to enter the address of the Lucy Sparrow Show at 717 Montauk State Point Highway, Montauk, NY into your GPS system. For Saturday, August 19, 2023, the ride out to Montauk was approximately three hours. Once the “highway” portion had completed, the GPS takes you on a winding route through the exclusive towns of East Hampton and eventually onto Montauk.

Arriving in Montauk, NY, you will have the option for street parking. Please note, this is limited by two hours and is STRICTLY ENFORCED! For the Lucy Sparrow show and a quick walk through downtown you will be covered with a two hour limit. Once you have parked, the town has a public restroom that is located just behind the Montauk police precinct.

Exiting the public restroom, you are just foot steps away from the Lucy Sparrow show! Once again, Lucy has taken a New York institution of bagels and created an amazing experience! Her artistry is second to none in this space! If you have not purchased a Lucy Sparrow piece, I highly recommend taking this opportunity to create your own bagel. Lucy will help guide you, but this is your chance to be creative on how you think the bagel should look! The gallery is full of items that are traditional New York, especially the New York coffee cup! I loved the pieces I walked away with to add to my collection! The show is sponsored by the owner of the gallery Mike, unknown last name. Mike should be commended on bringing Lucy to this great summer location. Having the opportunity to combine a trip to the Hampton with Lucy Sparrow made this an enjoyable day.

Lunch also known as https://lobsterroll.com/ is a great seafood spot in Montauk, NY

Now that you are in The Hamptons, it is time to make the most of the day. While you are parked, take a moment to walk around the town and down to the beach. After you complete your walk and based on your arrival time in Montauk, you want to make sure you hit up “Lunch” also known as, https://lobsterroll.com/, for your dining needs. Lunch is a great outdoor spot for traditional summer flair. The menu has the traditional lobster roll all the way to a variety of fish options. Lunch is an institution and gets quite busy. If you do not want to wait, then plan your departure in order to arrive at Lunch when they open.

Montauk Point State Park Lighthouse

Your time at Lunch concludes and it is off to the Montauk Lighthouse. The Lighthouse is a well organized activity. They have several pieces of memorabilia from the history of the Lighthouse. The walk up to the top of the Lighthouse is the traditional spiral staircase. Upon arriving at the top you can step outside to a small platform to see the surroundings.

The Lighthouse has a small restaurant with full service restrooms. Pro Tip: Walk down to this location, grab a snack and use the restroom. It was spacious and well maintained.

Montauk Airport

While the Lighthouse guides the ships, the Montauk airport is where you can get a feel for the luxury of the area. If you are into aviation, stop by the Montauk, airport. This is a low key private airport. You can park in the gravel parking lot and see any of the planes there on the tarmac.

blade Helicopter and another helicopter taking off

I enjoyed seeing the Blade helicopter land at the airport and an owner operated helicopter take off from the airport.

Now that you have visited with Lucy Sparrow, dined at Lunch, visited the beach and walked up the stairs at the Lighthouse, it is time to start the journey back to the city. Since it has been a long day, schedule a stop at Salt Barrel in Bay Shore, NY. Upon arrival at Salt and Barrel, you can find parking behind the restaurant that you can pay for by the hour. The cost is nominal. If you miss that parking, you can drive around the block and find another parking lot. Kudos to the town of Bay Shore for making parking available.

The food at Salt & Barrell is fantastic! They have a great oyster bar, they can make mocktails. The tuna tartare is a great starter and the octopus is delicious. It is a busy place, but on Saturday, August 19, 2023 seats were available at the bar.

Departing Salt & Barrel, you can take advantage of the gas stations around the corner and fill up for the journey back to New York City.

House of Joy

When you wake up on Sunday, it is off to Dim Sum! The House of Joy puts on a great Dim Sum spread! The food is hot and delicious. This is a great way to recap the weekend.

Looking back on the weekend, this author learned a lot about The Hamptons. My image of the Hamptons has always been large houses facing the water. While a number of those do exist, there are a great number of houses not on the water. This perplexes me, as I am not sure why somebody would pay the price to be in The Hamptons without access to the beach. It was clear that several people need to pack the car or walk to the beach.

Another interesting thing about The Hamptons included the lack of sidewalks. In the drive through the area their were many people out for walks or riding their bike, yet a bike lane or sidewalk does not exist. When you travel through The Hamptons, you need to keep your speed to the minimum and pay attention to all of the pedestrians.

The Hamptons is also full of interesting cars. On Saturday, August 19th, the following cars or dealerships could be seen: Various Range Rovers, Ford Broncos including classic and newer models, Ferrari and Mercedes G Wagon. Looking back on the day, the G-Wagon and Ford Bronco were the most prevalent. While I was unable to stop, the area had some classic restorations available from Range Rover at various local dealers on the road.

Driving to The Hamptons can be done in a day if you are not looking to spend the day at the beach or take in a night club scene. Ideally, if you have the resources, it appears that the travel via Blade would be ideal. Although, I am not able to comment first hand, but if blade ever has room for somebody that would like to write a story about traveling to The Hamptons for the day via blade I am available!
